uhhhh???what??i can't hear you because of the INTERFERENCE

Okay, here's the deal with the lake. We decided a long time ago that in order to provide the lake with broadband internet we would have to use wireless. The phone lines at most of the lake wouldn't support DSL anyway........so we decided to use 900mhz because that way we would get good penetration through the trees. Good for our customers because they wouldn't have to have line-of-sight to us or our tower.

The only problem with 900mhz is that alot of people use it, including oil/gas companies and paging systems....GET A CELL PHONE.......sorry........and when we ran our tests almost 2 years ago there wasn't any interference.

Okay so now we have this interference issue at the lake. Interference works like this. Say we are in an auditorium and you and I are sitting next to each other. We are also the only ones in the auditorium. We can whisper becuase the is no other noise besides our voices. Now over the next few hours thousands of people come into the auditorium. Now we have to talk louder becuase of all of the noise. Same thing with wireless.

Ok so do you remember your old calculus/trig classes? Remember sine and cosine? Well wireless works alot like electricity. You have a certain frequency over a certain distance over a certain amount of time. That is what we are talking about when we say we are using 900Mhz or 2.4Ghz or 5.3Ghz etc etc.....

Wireless also has a polarity like the polarity on your television set or your computer monitor. You can change the horizontal or vertical on your television or computer monitor right? We can change that too with your antenna and our antenna on our tower.

So what we do is change our antenna on our tower and then drive to every customer location and move their antenna 90 degrees and presto....less interference. But HOW does that work Mr. Wells???? Okay, you get a 20-30dB (decibel) fade between horizontal and vertical polarities! Yeah us!

Next question class....yes Kenny......(I like Kenny).....yes excellent question Kenny. Kenny asked why I didn't do this sooner. Hmmmmmm...kind of a no brainer there Kenny. Go to detention.......I didn't do it sooner becuase the most powerful antenna I could get until recently in the horizontal polarity was a 9dB but we had an 11dB (yes 2dB makes a big difference). But this new company from Isreal made an 11db and we can get it in the states now! Yeah Isreal! So it got delivered yesterday and we are now waiting for the ice to melt and the rain to stop and we will be setting it up.

Phew............
